The comprehensive surgery program includes joint-replacement, vascular, gynecological, urological, pulmonary, ophthalmic, plastic surgery, hand, foot, same-day and general surgery. The expanding Radiology Department now offers three-dimensional mammography. Mount Alverno Center, a state-approved adult home with an assisted-living program serving 85 residents, and Schervier Pavilion, a 120-bed skilled-nursing facility dedicated to the highest standard of healthcare excellence, also are on the campus.

St. Anthony Community Hospital has under gone an extensive upgrade of its Radiology Department that provides faster and more accurate diagnoses. The $10 million project has significantly increased the size of the current Radiology Department and includes the latest in new equipment and technology.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released their 2021 Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings, and St. Anthony received a Four-Star rating!  Only 21% of all the hospitals rated received Four-Stars and St. Anthony is the only hospital in Orange County to receive Four-Stars.  CMS uses star ratings to provide consumers with information so they can choose highly rated hospitals and other providers in their area.  The overall star rating for hospitals (between one and five stars) summarizes quality information on important topics, like readmissions and deaths after heart attacks or pneumonia. The seven quality measures include:

  • Mortality
  • Safety of care
  • Readmission
  • Patient experience
  • Effectiveness of care
  • Timeliness of care
  • Efficient use of medical imaging

The overall rating shows how well each hospital performed on an identified set of quality measures compared to other hospitals in the U.S. The more stars, the better a hospital performed on the available quality measures.

Ratings and Methodology

The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization committed to health care quality and safety. Developed under the guidance of a national expert panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades are assigned to over 2,700 acute-care hospitals across the nation twice annually. The Safety Grade uses up to 27 national patient safety measures from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, and information from other supplemental data sources, to produce a single letter grade representing a hospital’s overall performance in keeping patients safe from preventable harm and medical errors. It is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospitals’ prevention of medical errors and other harms to patients in their care.
