A Place to Call Home

Former Bon Secours Community Hospital Employee Now Enjoys Living at Mount Alverno Center

Beverly Roa, 75, was born and raised in Port Jervis, NY. In April, 2018, Beverly spent two weeks rehabilitating from blood clots found in her legs and lungs at St. Josephs Place, in Port Jervis. At that point, it was determined that it was best for her to find a long-term care facility that could assist her with her daily needs. Beverly is still very independent and didn’t require the level of care provided at St. Josephs Place but she wanted to stay within the Bon Secours Charity Health System so she decided to move into Mount Alverno Center in Warwick, NY.

It was important for Beverly to find an assisted living program within the Bon Secours Charity Health System because she had been a part of the system family for 38 years. She started working at Bon Secours Community Hospital in 1976 where she worked across several departments including admissions, registration and lead switchboard operator. “Bon Secours has always been my home-away-from-home,” said Roa. “And now at Mount Alverno I am getting the most incredible care. My roommate and I clicked right away and it is great to have someone to talk to throughout the day,” she said. “My nurses and doctors take the time to explain everything to me and I am happy to live out my days here.”

Roa has always been very active. She says she “will try anything once” so she has been taking full advantage of all the activities and amenities Mount Alverno has to offer. When people are looking for her, they head straight to the Activities Room where they can always find her socializing and taking part in the daily activities. She loves playing BINGO and the fun word games with her friends when she isn’t exploring the beautiful grounds on the Warwick campus.

Roa is extremely close with her growing family. She has two sons and is the proud grandmother of six grandkids and one great-grandchild. Her sons live in eastern Pennsylvania and come to visit their mother often. She says they have also been impressed with the level of care and comfort they see at Mount Alverno. “When I was working [in the Bon Secours Charity Health System] my sons always said that it was my second family, so it is nice to return to this family in my retirement!”
