Whether you’re looking for experience in the healthcare field, completion of a volunteer requirement, or just a chance to help out your community, WMCHealth is the place for you. With opportunities in a wide variety of areas, there is something for everyone in our volunteer program. 

 

General/Year-Round Opportunities
General volunteers are those interested in volunteering at WMCHealth who are not involved in an internship program. In other words, general volunteers are mostly available and interested in volunteering year-round, or seasonal. We welcome, Mature adults, Retired, stay-at-home moms, and dads, community service-minded, have a little extra time to serve the community, could typically do one four-hour shift a week.

 

Student Opportunities
In addition to volunteers who serve year-round, WMCHealth has a unique volunteer program for high school and college students to earn practical experience toward their future goals. Our student volunteers gain real-world, hands-on experience in the healthcare field. Whether they are looking to satisfy a volunteer requirement, support their career goals or simply make a difference in the community, our volunteers glean benefits and skills that can carry them long into the future.

Explore Our Opportunities

Child Life

Assist Child Life in activities with pediatric patients, such as arts, crafts, playing, and reading.

Clerical

Support the hospital staff by assisting with a wide variety of duties on nursing units, the volunteer office, and many other locations throughout the hospital.

Discharge Meal Program

Unpack food, stock shelves; assemble meal bags for patients with food insecurity.

Garden of Hope

The Garden Ministry of Bon Secours Charity Health System is a group of volunteers, hospital staff, professional horticultural therapists, fundraisers, and community members who are dedicated to providing an opportunity to create and nurture the people-plant relationship and to use the fruits of that relationship to bring good help to those in need.

 

Located at Good Samaritan Hospital, The Garden of Hope is a state-of-the-art planting space, designed with food production, therapeutic benefit, and accessibility as its primary goals. We are driven to provide our patients, staff, and the community with the opportunity to reap the cognitive, psychological, social, and physical bounty that lies within our garden walls. Guided by the principles of horticultural therapy and grounded in documented research, participation in garden-related activity has shown to be beneficial in lowering blood pressure, decreasing pain and the need for pain-relieving medication, alleviating feelings of depression, stress, and anxiety and improving cognition, range of motion and mood.  The Garden of Hope serves to be a valuable space of learning about respect for our environment and one another.  

Laundry Support

Assist families in MFCH by completing laundry on site.

Library Cart

Assist patients and their families in selecting books and magazines from the mobile library cart.

Research Support

Available throughout the organization in a host of clinical settings, service lines, and practices.

SAAVE Victim Advocate

Sexual Assault Abuse and Victim Empowerment Program. 30+ hours of pre-service training is required to be certified as a Rape Crisis Advocate. Attendance at twice-monthly training is necessary. SAAVE Program requires a commitment of a year of service.  Opportunities include staffing the 24-hour Rape Crisis Hotline, answering the Lethality Assessment Line for law enforcement who screen domestic violence victims, and/or providing accompaniment to victims through forensic evidence collection in the Emergency Departments. Spanish speaking is a plus.

Special Events

We depend on the generosity of volunteers to support fundraising events for the health network. Day-of assistance is typically needed on an ongoing basis.

Patient Experience

Offer a welcoming reception to patients and caregivers, and engage in friendly, non-clinical conversation. Offer hospital information, help connect to resources as appropriate, and act as a liaison with the clinical team.

Certified dogs from the Good Dog Foundation enhance the hospital experience for all and improve well-being.

Westchester Medical Center

Westchester Medical Center is the premier provider of advanced medical care in New York’s Hudson Valley. The flagship of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network, this 895-bed academic hospital in Valhalla, NY, provides local residents with acute-care services — Level I trauma and burn care, organ transplants, and advanced neurovascular procedures, and more — found nowhere else in the region. Westchester Medical Center is the primary referral facility for other Hudson Valley hospitals and serves as a lifeline for more than 3 million.

Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital

Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital is the children’s hospital for New York’s Hudson Valley region and Fairfield County, Connecticut. This 136-bed advanced pediatrics facility in Valhalla, NY, cares for the region’s most seriously ill and injured children, including those in need of cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, hematology and oncology treatments, organ transplants, and other specialty pediatric services. Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital is also home to the area’s only Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Level I pediatric trauma- and burn-care programs, and its Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

MidHudson Regional Hospital

MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY, is home to the mid-Hudson Valley’s most advanced healthcare services. This 243-bed facility cares for more than 10,000 inpatients annually while performing an additional 325,000 outpatient procedures each year. MidHudson Regional Hospital operates the area’s only Level II trauma center, is home to the Redl Center for Cancer Care and Center for Robotic Surgery, and is a destination hospital for patients with serious illnesses and injuries. 

HealthAlliance Hospital

HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley operates a 315-bed healthcare system comprising HealthAlliance Hospital: Mary’s Avenue Campus and HealthAlliance Hospital: Broadway Campus in Kingston, NY, and Margaretville Hospital in Margaretville, NY. It also operates Mountainside Residential Care Center, an 82-bed facility in Margaretville. As Ulster County’s largest employer, HealthAlliance is committed to attracting the best-qualified medical and support staff; providing outstanding, responsive, coordinated, compassionate patient- and family-centered care; excelling in clinical outcomes and patient experiences; and ensuring patient rights, privacy and respect are honored at all times, while improving the overall health and well-being of the diverse communities it serves.

Margaretville Hospital

Margaretville Hospital, in Margaretville, NY, is home to Delaware County’s most advanced critical care access hospital. This 15-bed facility cares for more than 240 inpatients annually while performing 14,000 outpatient procedures each year. Margaretville Hospital was named one of the top 100 critical-access hospitals in the nation by the National Rural Health Association. It provides emergency care, ambulatory care services, laboratory testing, medical imaging, physical and occupational therapy, swing-bed rehabilitation programs, respite care, and board-certified specialist and wellness education.

Bon Secours Community Hospital

For nearly a century, Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, NY, has served the residents of western Orange County, NY, Pike County, PA, and northern Sussex County, NJ, as the area’s premier healthcare provider. The hospital serves its community with 122 beds for acute care and medical-surgical services, a 24-hour emergency department, long-term care and rehabilitation, a dedicated bariatric surgery unit, behavioral health, and outpatient services.

St. Anthony Community Hospital

For over 75 years, St. Anthony Community Hospital in Warwick, NY, has been serving the residents of Orange County, NY, and New Jersey’s Sussex and Passaic counties with outstanding and compassionate care. The 60-bed hospital has been a primary resource for emergency, medical, surgical, obstetrical/gynecological, and acute-care services. Also on campus is the Mount Alverno Center, a state-approved adult home with an assisted-living program serving 85 residents, and Schervier Pavilion, a 120-bed skilled nursing facility dedicated to the highest standard of healthcare excellence.

Good Samaritan Hospital

Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, NY, is a 286-bed hospital providing emergency, medical, surgical, obstetrical/gynecological, and acute-care services to residents of Rockland and southern Orange counties in New York; and northern Bergen County, NJ. The hospital is home to a recognized cardiovascular program, comprehensive cancer treatment services, the area’s leading Wound and Hyperbaric Institute, and outstanding maternal/child services that include a Children’s Diagnostic Center. Good Samaritan Hospital also provides social, psychiatric, and substance abuse services and its certified home-care agency supports residents of the Hudson Valley and beyond.

Schervier Pavilion

At Schervier Pavilion, our goal is to help each resident maintain the highest level of daily independence possible. Located on a 27-acre campus that includes Mount Alverno Center, an adult home and assisted living residence, and St. Anthony Community Hospital, Schervier Pavilion residents have access to a complete continuum of care.

St. Josephs Place

St. Josephs Place offers 24-hour nursing care, long-term and short-term rehabilitation, tracheotomy care, head trauma care, respiratory care, and psychological services in a comfortable setting that our residents can call “home.”
