St. Anthony Community Hospital is proud to announce the installation of a new digital radiographic and fluoroscopic suite located in the Department of Diagnostic Imaging.
The new suite has been designed with our patients in mind. The technology offers high-quality images with the lowest radiation dose. The suite includes next-generation image processing software to provide better detail for more confident diagnoses.
What is Digital Radiography?
Digital Radiology uses X-ray sensitive plates to directly capture data during the patient examination, immediately transferring it to a computer system. Advantages to this technology include:
- Faster turn-around times and immediate image preview
- Ability to digitally transfer images to other systems for ease of analysis
- Increased image enhancement and detail
- Less radiation can be used than conventional radiography
What is Fluoroscopy?
Fluoroscopy is a study of things moving throughout your body. It is like an X-ray "movie" and is often done while a contrast dye moves through the part of the body being examined.
A continuous X-ray beam scans the body and the movement of fluid in real-time so that the organ/tissue and the motion can be analyzed together. Fluoroscopies are used to look at many body systems, including:
- Skeletal (bones and joints)
- Digestive
- Urinary
- Cardiovascular
- Muscular
- Respiratory
- Reproductive systems
Why might I need a fluoroscopy?
Your doctor may recommend a fluoroscopy as a diagnostic procedure, or in conjunction with other therapeutic procedures. Fluoroscopy is used in the following common procedures:
- Barium X-rays
- Used to see the movement of the intestines as the barium moves through them.
- Cardiac catheterization
- Used to see the flow of blood through the coronary arteries to check for arterial blockages.
- Electrophysiologic procedures
- Used to treat people with heart rhythm problems (arrhythmias).
- Arthrography
- Used to view a joint or joints.
- Placement of IV (intravenous) or arterial catheters
- Used to guide the catheter into a specific vessel inside the body.
- Hysterosalpingogram
- Used to view the uterus and fallopian tubes.
- Percutaneous vertebroplasty/kyphoplasty
- Used to treat compression fractures of the bones of the spine.
- Retrograde urethrogram, micturating cysto-urethrogram
- Used to assesses problems of the urinary system.
- Fistulography
- Used to assesses an abnormal connection (fistula) between two organs.
Studies are offered Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
